LAKE COMO INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING COMPETITION

Lake Como Philharmonic Orchestra announces the first edition of “LAKE COMO INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING COMPETITION

Lake Como International Conducting Competition, that was interrupted due to Corona Virus pandemic related issues, will continue on June the 14th.

In order to facilitate the inclusion of all the conductors that wanted to participate but couldn’t due to the emergency we faced months ago, we decided to open again the applications, thus making possible to join the first round of the competition to the widest audience.

The musicians that have already passed the First phase in November, will bew automatically admitted to the Second Round.

We look forward to meet you in person on Lake Como, Italy!

The competition is open to musicians of any nationality without age limits. The competition will be held in Como from June the 14th until June the 20th 2021. The candidates will be admitted to the competition according to the date of the application.

REGULATION

  1. The competition consists in an ELIMINATORY phase with piano 4 hands, a FIRST ROUND with chamber orchestra, a SEMIFINAL and a FINAL with symphony orchestra, a FINAL CONCERT.
  2. Conductors from any nationality can compete, without any age limit.

ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION

  1. FIRST ROUND – 4 HANDS PIANO
    Monday the 14th, Tuesday the 15th, Wednesday the 16th; each candidate will have the podium time necessary for the jury to evaluate him/her, in any case not less than 10 minutes and no more than 20;

3.1 Repertoire of the 1st Round
– J. Brahms: Symphony n° 1 in C minor op. 68

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n° 5 in C minor op. 67

3.2 Venue

The 1st Round will be held in Teatro di Bellano, Via Roma, 3 Bellano (Lc);

  1. SECOND ROUND – STRING ORCHESTRA
    Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th 2021; each candidate will have not less than 15 minutes podium time, the jury has faculty to ask for more time in order to thoroughly evaluate the candidate;

4.1 Repertoire of the 2nd Round
– P.I. Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings in C major op. 48

4.2 Venue

The 2nd Round will be held in Teatro di Bellano, Via Roma, 3 Bellano (Lc);

 

  1. SEMIFINAL – SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
    Saturday the 19th 2021; each candidate will have not less than 30 minutes podium time, the jury has faculty to ask for more time in order to thoroughly evaluate the candidate;

5.1 Repertoire of the Semifinal
– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°7 in A major op.92, I movement: Poco sostenuto – Vivace

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°7 in A major op.92, II movement: Allegretto

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°4 in B flat major op.60, I movement: Adagio – Allegro vivace

– F.J. Haydn: Symphony n°101 in D major, IV movement: Vivace

– W.A. Mozart: Ouverture from “Le nozze di Figaro”

– W. A. Mozart: Ouverture from “La finta giardiniera”

5.2 Venue

The Semifinal will be held at “Palasole” theatre, Viale Tommaso Grossi, 19, 23822 Bellano (LC)

 

  1. FINAL – SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
    Sunday the 20th 2021; each candidate will have not less than 50 minutes podium time to do a rehearsal and prepare the orchestra for the concert; the jury will not interfere with the rehearsal; each candidate will conduct a part of the concert and the performance is part of the competition; the results will be announced in front of the audience;

6.1 Repertoire of the Final

The Final consists in a rehearsal and a concert in which each candidate will have to conduct the following pieces:

– W.A. Mozart: Ouverture from “Le nozze di Figaro”

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°7 in A major op.92, I movement: Poco sostenuto – Vivace

Candidate 2

– W. A. Mozart: Ouverture from “La finta giardiniera”

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°4 in B flat major op.60, I movement: Adagio – Allegro vivace

Candidate 3

– L. van Beethoven: Symphony n°7 in A major op.92, II movement: Allegretto

6.2 Venue

– 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of Lake Como Philharmonic Orchestra in Italy;
– 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of Friuli Venezia Giulia Symphony Orchestra in Italy;

– 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of State Opera Plovdiv in Bulgaria;

 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of Istabul State Symphony Orchestra in Turkey;

– Official Diploma;

Second prize: € 1.500,00
– 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of Lake Como Philharmonic Orchestra in Italy;

– 1 concert during 2020/2021 or 2021/2022 season of Pazardjik Symphony Orchestra in Bulgaria;

– Official Diploma;

Third prize: €500,00
– Official Diploma;

The Application fee is not refundable for any reason except for the cancellation of the competition.

  1. COPYRIGHT
    The competition is a media event that will be recorded and broadcasted by television and radio.
    Submitting their application the competitors authorize the organization to the use of their image either through photographs and audio / video that can be broadcasted via radio, television and other media (internet, etc.).
    Submitting their application candidates also authorize the organization to use their name and image in printed publications related to the competition.
    The organization expects that candidates are available for interviews, photo shoots, and any other activity designed to make the competition interesting for the media.
    For any legal dispute the competent forum is Como’s.
